Review of Chaos Theory (2008) by Max H — 27 May 2011
Maybe this film was the breaking point of "Middle Age Dude Sucks or Hates Everything, Begins Carpe-ing the Diem" subgenre schlock that got Visioneers written. If that's the case, I appreciate it; otherwise, I don't.
If "carpe diem" (via "embrace chaos" - do these types of films always have to deliver their main message so overtly in the form of a revelatory, impassioned monologue?) was the message it was trying to send, then it really failed to do so effectively.
Reynolds does an above-average job, as usual, but he's bogged down by an ensemble - and a narrative, for that matter - that never manages to accomplish anything in 90 minutes. Worth watching, however, for the three total minutes of that chick from Scrubs.
