Review of Chantal (2007) by Doctor S — 09 Dec 2012
Far from your average nudie flick, Chantal creates as many disturbing scenes as it does titillating ones. Misty Mundae is the titular aspiring actress fresh off the bus in Los Angeles filled with naive notions of fame only to watch her dreams disintegrate as she's forced into compromising and debasing assignments, like a lesbian photoshoot and stripping for ugly old men, to pay the rent.
The overall effect is quite saddening, one can't help but wonder if this story seems all too familiar to anyone in this cast. Misty gives a very convincing dramatic portrayal of hopeful enthusiasm dwindling into disillusionment and despair.
A kinky cautionary tale if there ever was one.
