Review of Changing Lanes (2002) by Brody M — 14 Sep 2011
A modern day fable which reminds us just how easily plans can go astray and also just how and why we should learn to let those issues go, its a major Hollywood movie passing itself as a low key indpendant character driven story which is done rather well.
Okay not the most memorable of such themes brought to film however the qualities is that to start with the plot doesnt get carried away with itself i.e the acts of revenge carried out by the two leads dont audacious and over the top they are easily believable and palletable.
Here is a good example when he puts his mind to it Ben Affleck shows once again that he can actually act as the career focused , strong willed, hot shot lawer who might not look it is still looking to do the human, idealistic thing whilst Sam Jackson shows once again of versitile he can be as the pessimistic , meek , average working individual who doesnt really know how to deal with his frustration of everyday life.
Whilst this movie might not be up there with memorable movie such as American History X this low key movie still manages, very aptibly to deliver a decent, honest message to everyone which is - Accept Shit Happens and deal with it , those of you out there expecting old school , "Death Wish" revenge themes had better look else where !
