Review of Changeling (2008) by Andy K — 03 Jun 2011
Clint Eastwood delivers a masterpiece as director with a leading performance to match from Angelina Jolie. A bizarre but moving story about a missing child in 1920s Los Angeles, which deals with human emotions, police corruption and a serial killer all rolled into one absorbing film.
Critics of the plot who don't like the nonsense storyline are completely missing the point - it's a true story and while Eastwood adds his own artistic licence, he can't mess around with it too much to suit Hollywood - thankfully he doesn't.
Superb acting all round, especially from John Malkovich as the local pastor and Michael Kelly, playing the cop who discovers the horrific murders. One of, if not the, best film of the year so far - Baz Luhrmann's 'Australia' had better be damn good to beat this one.
