Review of Changeling (2008) by Daniel A — 07 Oct 2011
A harrowing and almost unbelievable true story brought to life in a traditional yet effective manner by director Clint Eastwood. Changeling provides Angelina Jolie with one of her best roles, proving her worth as a serious actress with spectacular results; it's a loud performance in a very baity role, but there are still brilliant quiet moments that set this apart from the usual 'woman loses son and goes mad' performance.
Sadly the film, in an attempt to present the story as factually as possible, feels a tad drawn out, and consequently seems a little overlong, however Eastwood knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to great storytelling, and this narrative really speaks for itself.
Changeling is at times a difficult but ultimately worthwhile watch.
