Review of Changeling (2008) by Kent D — 01 May 2012
Very good.
I'd had no interest in seeing it based on the trailer (period piece, boy goes missing, a boy is found and returned to her, but she swears it's not her son), but based on a friend's recommendation I watched it, and am glad I did.
Definitely thematically similar to Mystic River, which I love, though harder to watch at times (for me anyway).
Beautifully shot and acted by everyone, and the period is recreated superbly, but as many other critics have put it, it's all done very conventionally (and the ending differs from the real events upon which it's based, though I can understand why for the sake of the film), and so ends up feeling a little flat.
