Review of Changeling (2008) by Carter S — 19 May 2012
Changeling is the horrifying true story of mother Christine Collins and her plight to find her missing son Walter. This astonishing tale is one of indescribable strength and love of a mother who only wishes to hold her son again.
Angelina Jolie's performance is mesmerizing. The quality and depth in her submersion into the character of Mrs. Collins is quite astounding. Once again, along with Meryl Streep in Doubt, we see how Winsletâ??s Oscar win was nothing but a sympathy vote that was exaggerated by media attention. Jolie is among the master class of actresses that shall forever be remembered for their breakaway performances. Her performance in Changeling is assurance enough that all the over-blown media attention that she receives has not in any way hampered her rare talent for screen-acting.
The film is very long and does seem to lose its pace in parts but this does not take away from the horrifying plot development and unbelievable truth of the story's reality.
Eastwood once again delivers amazingly, having far more of an apathetic approach to straight on violence. The film is relentless in its truthful depiction to murder and the twisted people who live among us. Bravo to Jolie and Eastwood.
