Review of Changeling (2008) by Eduardo T — 30 May 2012
Forget what the top critics say. This was a great film. Should I talk about the good parts or bad parts first? I'll go with the good parts considering there are more of them. This had some great acting. Angelina Jolie gave a great performance along with lots of emotion. She made the film believable. She really felt like a mother who just lost her child. Her tone of voice and facial expression is part of what moved the film towards the end and kept the emotion bottled in you. The direction was great as well. It's by Clint Eastwood so, how can it be bad? He did a good job at directing the actors and everyone else on set. Told the camera men where to shot and the art directors what style of art to use. His choice in pacing was great. Not to fast to keep me board and not to slow to keep me looking at the time. It did start a little to fast but it retained itself threw time length. The production values where great. It really did look like the 20's. I wasn't alive back then so that statement is probably baseless. Good costume design and great cinematography. The negative side of this overall good film would be the writing. The dialogue was okay but what hit me the most was the conflict. Sure it was a true and doleful story but it lacked good flow. The different conflicts didn't quite mixed as well as they should have. It felt more like towards the end it was written to get it over with. Overall, this was a great sad true story that I would recommend not just to.
