Review of Cesar Chavez (2014) by Roxanne R — 29 Jul 2014
It should have been released 30 years ago but this historical biography about the important 1960s farm workers champion, Mr. Cesar Chavez, will resonate with Latinos nationwide. Regardless of your economic status, as a Hispanic woman I wanted to learn about this remarkable man that changed the course of history for the migrant farm workers, who were treated like slaves and exploited for decades due to their lack of education and knowledge of the English language.
Michael Pena as Cesar Chavez depicts the great man perfectly, a non-violent and fair man that took on vineyards and other businesses in his quest to stop the brutality and indignities faced by these poor workers.
Upon my move to Los Angeles I visited several museums including La Plaza de Cultura y Artes across from Olvera Street and there I saw a lot of Cesar Chavez including picketing photos, the unfair arrests of union workers, etc.
Cesar Chavez was a champion for farm workers rights and this film depicts all the trials and tribulations very accurately. Of particular praise was John Malkovich's performance as Bogdanovich Senior and America Ferrera as Helen Chavez.
A must see film that will make you cheer for Cesar Chavez!!!
