Review of Certified Copy (2010) by Lilian W — 14 Oct 2010

Is a Persian phrase which can translate roughly as "to unravel" and I think this term adequately defines the quality of this film. Starting slow, even deceivingly dull at times, Kiarostami works his way up, along with his two main characters, unraveling- in the process- the true nature of their relationship, his distinct marks as ever evident. Juliette Binoche here is at her absolute best, delivering her best performance up to date, in my opinion, and deservingly winning Cannes' Best Actress Award.
Kiarostami once said that there can be no real creativity away from the roots, referring to the painstaking process of making films in his home country of Iran and contemplating the difficult choice of breaking away from his land, but with this film, he proved himself wrong.
