Review of Certified Copy (2010) by Bert R — 15 Jan 2011
On the surface this is a film about a writer who meets a woman in Tuscany and they spend the day together going from one beautiful place to another talking but there is so much more to it than that.
This is a Truly great film, a genuine master class in film making, peformances, dialogue, scenery. This can be interpreted in so many and varying ways and leaves you both captivated and intrigued, confused and fascinated throughout it;s running time. I must have changed my own personal interpretation of what was actually going on at least five times during the film but I honestly think that the films many meanings and actualities can be argued in more than one direction which is the large part of it's beauty.
Juliette Binoche is absolutely perfect in this film and is matched throughout by William Shimell. Reminded me at times of 'Before Sunrise' but I think far superior in every way.
