Review of Certified Copy (2010) by Jimmy N — 17 Jun 2012
Oh my god what a treat! I knew I really wanted to see this 2 years ago, curse me for waiting. It's on Netflix streaming and was amazing. After initial reviews convinced me to see it, I heard something after the fact about a potential mystery, that perhaps the two leads were married all along and were playing a game.
I don't believe that, having seen it, but the movie gives you so much to think about. They talk about art, what's real, how a copy may or may not be enough, and it was all interesting, and then they go back and forth acting as if they've been married for 15 years, since those around them believe they are.
It was very appropriately awkward at times because it was so real. And let me tell you something people -- constructing a few scenes where Juliette Binoche, who won Best Actress for this in Cannes, stares directly into the camera while talking to her costar.
.. this is a very powerful thing. I was completely in awe of her for many reasons. Incredible movie!
