Review of Central Intelligence (2016) by Hollywood H — 26 Nov 2016
Overall a disappointment for me. I actually enjoy Dwayne Johnson quite a bit and Kevin Hart is funny although I find the dude a bit overrated at this point (cmon man he just yells out loud and makes faces!).
Central Intelligence follows Robbie Wierdicht (Dwayne Johnson) who is brutally bullied on the day of the last high school senior rally. The only person to stand up for him is actually one of the most popular kids at school named Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart).
The two go their own ways and we find Calvin working a boring accounting job 20 years later. He gets a Facebook request from someone calling himself Bob Stone and soon meets up with the mysterious man finding out that Bob Stone is actually Robbie from high school.
Bob has changed his physical appearance and after some events reveals to Calvin that he works for the CIA and needs Calvin's help in uncovering some stolen satellite codes. But soon Calvin realizes that not all of Bob's story adds up and there's much more to him than meets the eye.
Overall, there's actually quite a bit of slow parts. It takes a good 40 minutes before we even jump into any action. Hart and Johnson work off each other fairly well, but early on Johnson's portrayal comes off as super wooden.
I laughed a couple of times and I will admit the plot jumps back and forth between absurd and slapstick. It's a rental at best in my book I just didn't find it as funny and thought it had too many pacing issues.
