Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Rob M — 29 Aug 2010
I suspect that Merchant and Gervais, two very talented men, were saving all their good jokes for other material, because I found none in this film. What I did find were three very bland characters with whom I could not sympathise.
The central figure, played by Christian Cooke, did little except pout and wave his immaculate hair about. His partners in crime came in the form of token hothead Tom Hughes, who tried to punch his way through the entire film, and the obligatory fat, slow-witted dolt (Jack Doolan), who provided the canvas for all the movie's cheap gags.
By the time the plot had kicked in, I was beyond caring, my senses numbed by all the lazy dialogue, puerile remarks and one-dimensional characters. I wonder what possessed Ralph Fiennes, celebrated veteran of the big screen, to make an appearance in this potboiler.
