Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Liz B — 17 Apr 2010
We both enjoyed this movie- in my case, more than I initially expected. Gervais & Merchant's script and casting were spot-on. It may not be the most original choice of subject matter, but they handled it in a touching and refreshing way. Impeccable use of soundtrack as well.
Side note: I rated this 3 stars, which is my standard rating for an enjoyable flick. It's not like giving it a C instead of an A or B. I think it's a good movie and recommend it for pretty much anyone except kids.
Also: the description above ("A 1970s-set comedy centered on three upstart professional men working at an insurance company. ") is wrong.
Out of the three friends, only one of them works for the insurance company, along with the father and fiance of the female lead character (and love interest). That description ignores the class issues at play in the story, which are *key.*.
