Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Trent R — 30 Jul 2010
Formulaic coming of age film with above average dialogue delivered best by the secondary cast. Fiennes acts the sexist prick, and Gervais is fun as a sardonic and casually racist dad. Of the leads, Jack Doolan leaves the most impression.
The young cast are fine looking but completely bland, and it is only the short bits with Gervais, Fiennes, or a Merchant walk-by that liven things up. Another marginal highlight is Doolan doing a Slade number, taking over for a cover band led by Matt Holness, (Garth Marenghi).
However, the overall feel is one of television drama, but one with a better soundtrack, support cast and script than most.
