Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Richard P — 29 Aug 2010
A very good coming-of-age drama set in 1970s Reading and written (very well) by Gervais & Merchant. I'm not sure why the DVD cover describes it as "absolutely hilarious" as it isn't a comedy, but it does have some very funny scenes.
This does prove however, that Ricky Gervai can only play Ricky Gervais and he is badly miscast here as a working-class dad struggling to provide for his family with his measly factory-job wages. He just doesn't fit in, but then, he wrote the film, so why give yourself a part?
The four young main stars were unknowns before this, but sould have big futures, as their performances are really believable.
