Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Valerie P — 20 Jul 2011
I felt a bit disappointed in Gervais while I was watching this. I loved films like The Invention of Lying so much, I expected to have a similar reaction. This one is a slow burner, however. It's better in the post-watched sense of, "Oh yeah, that was a good scene. I like how that was done..." Yet, while I was actually viewing it, I kept thinking... "Is this it?".
It did make some good statements, however - Emily Watson and her daughter's realization about life as an unappreciated, 1970's housewife, for example. I found this happy ending less cheesey and more acceptable. In retrospect, I kind of enjoyed the film.
