Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Steve G — 07 May 2011
Growing up in Home Counties Commuterville, I can certainly identify with this film. The knowledge when you hit adolescence that there is bigger wider world out there, but you're not quite sure how to make the leap, and maybe it's easier to stay where you are.
I thought the film started off well, with endearing characters, some great recreations of 70s culture, and in the dialogue contemporary xenophobic attitudes are used for comedic effect. But for me the film runs out of steam half-way through, almost as if the writers had made their point and weren't sure how to tie things up.
A little disappointing considering it comes from the usually high-calibre team of Gervais and Merchant.
