Review of Celtic Pride (1996) by Danny B — 22 Jun 2008
Fantastic premise with potential way beyond what the studio notes would let it do. I don't know what the story is with Adam McKay writing this but I can only assume that it was a much grittier and swear filled comedy at one point before it was cleaned up for the PG-13 crowd.
The flick has some hilarious knocks on sports enthusiasm and celebrity endorsements, and like I say the plot had so much potential for a great PA comedy.
Casting is suspect, Stern and Aykroyd would definitely not be my first choice, Wayans however would be.
With some dirtier jokes, Bill Murray for Aykroyd and Chevy Chase for Stern (an upgrade in actors and dry comedy as opposed to Aykroyd's slapstick) this movie would easily be the best sports comedy of all time.
