Review of Cellular (2004) by James W — 12 Aug 2013
This film completely took me by surprise. I thought it was going to be a badly acted and action-free movie, but it was the total opposite. The cast deliver solid performances, I cared about the characters and if their plans succeeded, especially kidnap victim Kim Basinger, and I also hoped Chris Evan's character would save her.
I'm a fan of Jason Statham, and it's great to see him play a bad guy, and when he died I was shocked cause I'm used to him being the goody and always surviving. The action is fierce, a bit cat-and-mouse style.
The streets of Santa Monica are ripped to pieces in fierce car chases and escapes, this is real fun stuff. The script was a bit naff with some cheesy one liners but they made me laugh even when it was meant to be serious.
This is a suspense filled thriller with believable characters and an intense last act!
