Review of Cellular (2004) by James S — 18 Apr 2008
Surprisingly decent phone themed thriller that manages to both deliver tension, suspense and twist, plus a few decent laughs too.
Kim Basinger is predictably awful but Evans and Statham reliably ham it up and keep the whole thing ticking along quite nicely.
Every mobile phone cliche is thrown in during it's run time which is actually not as bad as it sounds and leads to some of films memorable moments.
However, one sticking point. When Basinger randomly calls Evans on his mobile he tells her that she's wasting his minutes. How would this work?, as she called him so surely his valued contract minutes wouldn't be touched?.
That and the standard ending aside, Cellular is a modern, well crafted and put together thriller.
