Review of Cellular (2004) by Ahmad F — 23 Sep 2011
The Rampart scandal was no joke, and given that this film attempts to portray a story of corrupt LA police officers in a very light tone, especially compared to the two other films dealing with the same subject matter (Street Kings, 2008; Training Day, 2001) - it does a bad job.
I never really cared to much about the characters or what was largely going on. The film seemed somewhat superficial, not least because the scenes at the Santa Monica Pier with all the bikini-clad girls seemed out of place in what ought to be a more gritty and serious film.
Evans made a good effort on his part, but unfortunately due to the poor script writing, doesn't manage to carry the film.
