Review of Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012) by John H — 14 Aug 2013
Rashida Jones proves herself a talented writer and actress with this film, which has an empathy and awareness of humanity rare in the condscension-heavygenre of indie dramadies. So even if it falls back on conventional tropes a lot and lacks a more intuitive emotional honesty, it's reversal of typical indie gender roles - with Jones as the insufferable yet sad being who learns to open up - is novel enough on its own.
Not exactly profound, but sad and sweet.
