Review of Celebrity (1998) by Augustine H — 01 Sep 2013
Vanity fair is like that: loaded with thousands of people without making much sense. But if you ever want to present that in a film, you should definitely do some editing rather than being 'truthful'.
Woody Allen has made a serious mistake here by including too many characters without making much sense. Although the film references, like to Duel in the Sun and A Streetcar Named Desire are of ingenuity, they are awkward for being superficial.
As for characters, although Kenneth Branagh behaves utterly identical with Woody himself, the presence of the rest of the characters (except DiCaprio) does nothing rather than chaos and confusion.
