Review of Cedar Rapids (2011) by Jennifer L — 22 Feb 2012
Cedar Rapids was another film competing for the Spirit Awards, where the nomination is for John C Reilly for his best supporting role. Comedies were always the most difficult of all film genres to rate, since no people have the same sense of humor.
While some people laughed their ass out with The Hangover, others walked out or had no interest at all. So here, it began simple, showing Ed Helms in his first leading role as Tim Lippe, an insurance agent from Brown Valley, who's never left his hometown.
When an opportunity present, that Tim must represent his company for the annual convention in Cedar Rapids, he must do everything to win the Two-Diamond award or it will cost him his job.John C Reilly played another insurance salesman, Dean Ziegler, who helped Lippe come out of his shell.
As for the rest of the characters, they were okay since the script didn't allow them to do much. John C Reily was hilarious and that was the reason he stood out. Overall, I would recommend watching it because of him, he will have you laughing at times but don't go in expecting anything spectacular.
