Review of Cedar Rapids (2011) by Mike G — 05 Apr 2012
I ended up liking it better than I thought I would although it's not really a great movie, just a small good one. It's full of all kinds of contradictions, like having a much senior to him, Ed Helms, girlfriend in Sigourney Weaver that was actually one of his former school teachers and yet he's supposed to be sooooo naive it hurts when he hits the "sprawling metropolis" of Cedar Rapids straight out of Shitkicker, Minnesota, ya.
... I didn't find much of it midwestern in flavor as well although that's supposed to be a part of the conceit. But still taken all together with a funny, slightly underplayed John C. Reilly character I found it enjoyable enough.
It's also short at 87 minutes where the temptation to drag it out may have been present, but I think they made the right call.
