Review of Cecil B. Demented (2000) by Tristan G — 05 Nov 2007
AWESOME SOUNDTRACK!!!! I liked all the film references too. Other than that, the film is really trashy and sick, but enjoyable in a way that few other recent mainstream films are. This is definitely a John Waters movie.
It's about a group of cinema terrorists who kidnap a famous Hollywood actress and force her to star in their own underground cult move about the destruction of mainstream cinema. The film ends in a sex orgy, chaos, death, and people setting themselves on fire "in the name of truly independent cinema.
Along the way, they get help from international film-lovers and a theater filled with porn junkies. It's funny if you don't mind feeling like you need to take a shower afterwards. It's pretty amateurish for a recent film, but I enjoyed it.
I especially loved the heavy metal punk soundtrack.
