Review of Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) by Keith E — 14 May 2011
Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2011). A documentary by one of the greatest living directors shows what only a handful of people in the world have seen. In 1994, French archeologists, searching for air plumes that might reveal the presence of a cave discovered The Chauvet Cave.
The Chauvet Cave contains remarkable paintings that are twice as old as any paintings ever discovered, more than 30,000 years old. These paintings are remarkably preserved because a great stone bluff collapsed and covered the cave entrance more than 20,000 years ago.
Herzog directs and narrates in his usual dry but insightful manner this celebration of mankind's artistry. This movie MUST be seen in 3-D to appreciate the real-life experience. All artists, art historians, historians, or any student of mankind should see this movie.
