This film does an outstanding cinematic effort of capturing probably the most astounding artistic find in modern human history. It is also an incredible 3-D production, probably one of the best, besting most of Avatar. Warner Herzog again is incredibly sensitive and detailed in his capture of stunning artwork of one (or perhaps many) cave artisans 32000 years ago. Herzog's trademark paced, dry and thoughtful German-accented commentary engages as do some of the experts interviewed.

Regrettably, after one fully absorbs the incredible cave artwork captured by Herzog's crew, his commentaries and interviews - compounded by increasingly a grinding and screechy soundtrack one step removed from scratching a blackboard while in a Buddhist temple - quickly spiral sideways into philosophical ethereal drivel that might be best served under the influence of something. The final posit regarding the comparison of our current humanity to the evolved mutated albino alligators (found in the nearby nuclear reactor botanical garden biosphere) is ponderable but seriously "out there". Numerous attendees of our special screening left early.

I left feeling that despite the amazing find and depiction of this significant work, I had been adequately educated and stimulated - yet just had survived the screening while yearning for out take credits featuring a SNL spoof that would have Ferrell''s Lipton interviewing both Herzog and the caveman/woman artist bearing, of course, an artisan French accent.
