Review of Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) by Sam C — 15 Jun 2011
I wasn't impressed, the camera work wasn't deserving of a movie screen, or possibly even an HDTV screen, this could easily have just been a NOVA or History or National Geographic Channel show, there was too much forced awe in the narrative, "you should be really impressed with this and how hard we worked to show it to you".
They pulled in a lot of extraneous fluff to stretch it out to feature film length, especially the albino alligators at the end, what was that? The cave and the drawings and the coincidences that caused it's preservation shouldn't have been understated.
The facts of the discovery, and the difficult work the French authorities have obviously done to preserve it are more awe inspiring than I feel the movie conveys. If I am ever close enough I will trek to the door for a commemorative picture, and I'll tour the replica of the cave they are building, I'm just that kind of geek.
But maybe give James Cameron a chance to apply his literally Titanic skills and techniques and technology to the problem. I'm sure he could create an ingenious camera dolly for that walkway for a tiny fraction of his Avatar profits.
