Review of Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) by Scott S — 09 Jul 2011
Take two incredibly interesting subjects: Chauvet Cave in France and Werner Herzog, combine the two and you have 100% pure fucking gold! This is seriously the best documentary I have seen from Herzog. There is never anything quite like a Herzog Doc.
He can make a documentary about a model paint factory in Idaho and it would be the most interesting film you could see. But here he has what is probably the greatest find in my lifetime, Chauvet Cave in France which holds 30,000 year old artwork.
Naturally Herzog makes an already great subject into a dreamy and powerful film. Call me a bitch but this film had me swallowing back a lump in my throat. And anybody that can do that to me just by showing me a cave painting with some gorgeous strings music is a genius in my book.
Or maybe iam just a pussy.
