Review of Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) by Christian G — 25 Dec 2011
If you enjoy exploring caves and admiring their beauty, secrets, and taking a couple of history lessons along the way in incredible high definition then this documentary is for you! Made by Werner Herzog, about the Chauvet Cave in southern France with footage filmed inside the cave as well as interviews with various scientists and historians.
The cave is carefully preserved and the general public is not allowed to enter so imagine my delight in being able to see and admire the interior of this beautiful cave and its paintings in HD on a 55" screen! Herzog received special permission from the French Minister of Culture to film inside the cave but under heavy restrictions.
All people authorized to enter must wear special suits and shoes that have had no contact with the exterior. Also, because of near-toxic levels of radon and carbon dioxide, nobody can stay in the cave for more than a few hours per day.
This documentary also is offered in 3D which had to be quite a challenge under those restrictions but I assure you that just watching in blu-ray format (HD) is absolutely stunning! The film also includes footage of the nearby Pont d'Arc natural bridge.
Highly recommended!
