Review of Cats Don't Dance (1997) by Jeff H — 05 May 2011
Cute animation, catchy songs (courtesy of Randy Newman), and a simple story make Cats Don't Dance a fun, light picture kids will eat up and parents can enjoy as well. I remember watching this a few times back in the late nineties as a kid and really loving it.
Having re-watched it, I have to say it's still pretty fun, those songs are charming, the animation isn't flashy, and the visual gags are both silly Saturday morning funny and movie in-joke funny.
The voice cast is fine, though no one really stands out, maybe that's a good thing. Celebrity voice casting can feel gimmicky, but here everyone is simply the character they play, so you're not going "Hey, that's Scott Bakula!".
