Review of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (2010) by Jason M — 17 Aug 2010
Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.
Initial Reaction: Who?s Kitty Galore?
Main Characters.
Diggs: He?s a newly recruited Dog voiced by James Mersden.
Butch, Catherine: Two animal agents on opposite sides of the cat/dog conflict. They are voiced by Nick Nolte and Christina Applegate.
Kitty Galore: She?s one bad kitty voiced by Bette Midler.
Plot Summary.
When Kitty Galore hatches her newest plan to rid the world of dogs, a spy dog agency goes into action. For this part, they bring in a new recruit, Diggs. Their job: to get information about Kitty?s plan through a inside pigeon (I?m not making this up).
But when they find the pigeon, they cross paws with Catherine to get that bird. Seems there?s a cat spy agency out to stop Kitty as well.
It takes a bit of time, but the three agents figure out they have to work together to save the day.
SCORING.
Main characters.
There?s nothing unique on display here (why does the cat always have to be the female and not one of the dogs?), but it?s not a huge distraction. SCORE: 4.
Supporting Cast.
The agents meet up with several oddball characters like a cat that acts like Hannibal Lecter. Nothing special, nothing horrible. SCORE: 5.
Plot.
It?s a badly pieced together plot that wanders about too much before getting to the end. And I didn?t mention the side plot where a police officer tries to find his partner, Diggs. That side plot was completely forgettable. SCORE: 3.
Originality.
This film borrows from several other films like Silence of the Lambs, and some James Bond films (Roger Moore voices the head of the cat spy agency). But I wished there could be more original material on display here. SCORE: 4.
Violence Factor.
There?s a lot of out of control flying and some really bad paw to paw combat that tries to emulate hand to hand combat. SCORE: 4.
Other Moral Issues.
Let?s get this straight: cats and dogs DO NOT act like this in real life.
Anyways, this film tries to show the importance of teamwork, but the message felt watered down to me. SCORE: 5.
Final Score (out of 60): 25 % Score: 41.67%.
This film needed some original thinking and plotting.
