Review of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (2010) by Jenifer M — 15 Apr 2011
A stupid woof that is strictly for the little anklebiters. Sure, it's kinda funny, with all those animal puns and Bond homages, but film was pretty much doomed because of the 9-year gap between the original and this. Would've been better if it came out many, many years ago.
An evil kitty operative plans to control the world -- yes, always THE WORLD!!! Ahahahahaha! -- by making its furry animals go wild. The dogs won't stand for that, but will have to reluctantly work with their feline rivals (as well as a pigeon) to save petkind from that bad kitty and her weapon of mass de-domestication.
Yes, the story's not so good, as it has been... clawed from the same scratching post many, many times now. And Mr. Tinkles (the original's bright spot) is sparingly used, as well as the little things that appeal to the adults. The human cast is basically lifeless or absent. Where's Jeff Goldblum when you need him? The filmmakers didn't put much effort into it either, kinda rushing it and whatnot, as if they just threw a bone and did no more.
But... they somehow attracted a good -- purrrrfect -- voice cast, including the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Bette Midler, Roger Moore, and more. And the CGI is actually decent, combined with animals and cool gadgets. Much of it is ridiculous, but in a good way, I guess.
Paws down, not as disastrous as I thought, but a pleasant bit of fun. But it'll only be enjoyed by the kids, as I said. Everything - the day, etc. - (except your money) has been saved, but the evil studio has rendered a third one inevitable. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *cough* Hairball.
