Review of Cats (1998) by Brandy S — 10 Oct 2010
Think this would be much more impressive onstage - we've all seen awesome dancers and cool special effects in the movies, but they're something really special about it live.
That said, I thought the story was weak. The songs each support a different character and describe their interactions with humans.
The set was great, built to macro proportions.
Costumes were impressive as was the makeup, though I was vastly amused to be able to name several different kinds of yarn as the base for many of the more impressive costume pieces.
The music is fun and catchy, and performed well. The actors and dancers do well with movement to describe the feline characters.
The film has a very 80s feel, oddly, though it was filmed in '98. May be the big hair and bold makeup.
