Review of Cats (1998) by Kristi M — 26 May 2014
I had always wanted to see Cats since I was little and was a bit disappointed with the exception of Grizabella. Had I not read read the Wiki on it I probably would have rated it pretty low but seeing that it's meant to be a series of short stories that are condensed into a synopsis of this cat tribe(tribe sounds weird but anyway) I do get it so I was able to follow it without looking for a plot.
It is sometimes cute, sometimes strange, and sometimes ridiculous but still has amazingly beautiful and poignant moments. I read that Grizabella wasn't originally written in because she wasn't in the original short stories and Memory was actually completed weeks before the first performance- what brilliant choice Webber made writing it in because without that performance this play would have flopped despite the talent.
My 5 year old absolutely loves it...actually she loves Phantom of the Opera as well, go figure.
