Review of Catfish (2010) by Sidney S — 30 Jun 2013
A fascinating look at the world of social networking and online dating with a charming, reluctant subject, photographer Nev Schulman, unravelling the truth behind the authenticity of the family he has befriended through Facebook.
Ironically, the authenticity of this documentary has itself been questioned, but regardless of how genuine the unfolding events are, filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have constructed a narrative that is both unsettling and funny (Nev reading out his text message conversations with "Megan" is awkwardly hilarious), having much to say about the impact of technology on communication and human relationships.
