Review of Catfish (2010) by Mat S — 14 Apr 2012
A good example of a decent movie and why the trailers ruin it all. the best way to explain this, get you on track, is by throwing out a question. Have you ever had a friend tell you about a movie or a book and make it out to be really big and scary and shinny and crazy, then you start to freak out and say "oh I gotta see this!" then once you see it, it happens to be not as big, scarry or shinny as you pictured? Judging by the hype and the trailer's one gimmick, "the best Hitchcock film, Hitchcock never made," I was freaked out, totally blew my mind.
Seeing the movie for the first time I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the big surprise, the creeping climax leading to the "last fifteen minutes is an emotional roller coaster ride!" and what do you know, it isn't.
To be fair it's still a decent movie but for all the other reasons. I loved the characters and the acting was amazing, couldn't tell at some moments if some of the people being interviewed were real actors or if they were being themselves.
Everything had a nice smooth flow to it. and yes, it was a bit of a psychological thriller, if you minus the trailer and just go in watching the movie not knowing what it's about.... yes thats the only way you can fully appreciate the suspense of the movie is by not watching the trailer, or maybe they should have changed the trailer and make it look less of a thriller because that just no.
