Review of Catfish (2010) by Geoff T — 24 Sep 2011
Well if anyone is even going to talk about this movie, it's necessary to first talk about the authenticity. Perhaps it's real, perhaps it isn't. Depending on what perspective I choose, I can watch this film and pick it apart and question everything, or I can watch it and attempt to validate every frame.
I'm not sure. If this film isn't real, or if it's exaggerated in some way, I do have to say it's amazingly convincing. I sat in my chair completely engrossed for the entire running time, and it almost doesn't matter if it's real or not.
By the end, this is a very beautiful and sad little movie. In the middle it's a fascinating enigma, and as more and more answers are revealed, everything becomes genuine and human. I can't tell you much else, because to tell you the premise is to ruin the movie, but it could not be more relevant to our time or our sentiments.
