Review of Catfight (2017) by Coolcrowe — 22 Oct 2020
The movie is a success in that it definitely achieves what it sets out to. It's engaging, sometimes funny, sometimes shocking. Both actress' performances are convincing enough that you find yourself drawn into their characters' worlds and can't help but root for both of them despite their obvious flaws and stubborn animosity towards one another.
But the real kick comes at the end when you step back and it sinks in that the whole time, the feelings you experienced weren't solely representative of an attachment to these characters but to the people and parties that they so clearly personify.
It then makes sense why the entire film feels somewhat familiar and intimate. It's the mark of successful allegory that you already somehow know how this story goes.
