Review of Catch.44 (2011) by The D — 02 Dec 2011
What a complete disaster of a film.
It's completely ripped off from both Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction, very very badly.
3 females(Akerman, Reed & Woll) are sent to a remote diner to intercept a drugs exchange. They are sent my Mel(Willis) as this is an exchange on his patch. The girls are said to teach them that they don't operate on his patch.
This is filmed in a series of shootbacks as the events within the diner progress gradually.
So straight off the whole diner setting is lifted from Honeybunny & Pumpkin.
Entering the mix is the mysterious Ronny(Whitaker) seemingly slighty unstable of mind. He has his own agenda as does Billy the diner cook.
So it ends up pretty much as a stand off between three of the antagonist, all pointing guns at one another trying to ascertain what is going on. There you have the Reservoir dogs final scene lift, painfully drawn out with a plot that just beggars belief.
It's on 90 mintues but it seems horribly longer. Helen Hunt pops up in a strange non speaking role briefly. Some might say it's a bit different. if different is the opposite of good then they would be right.
