Review of Catch That Kid (2004) by John C — 07 Jul 2004
Catch That Kid is a family movie that sends a rather strange and muddled message. The story is about three friends, one of whom's father is suffering from an old injury that can only be corrected through expensive surgery in Sweden.
The family, of course, can't pay for the surgery.... but wait, the mom works for a security that is installing a new security system at.... a bank! You can imagine what comes next. The question that I have, despite the weak attempt to tie everything together at the end with some neat After School Special themes, is what kind of message is this movie sending.
Its OK to committ grand theft as long as the beneficiary of the theft is a sick dad rather than to feed your drug habbit? I know its just a movie, but kids are going to be watching this stuff and some of them will have a hard to time finding the subtilty.
