Review of Catch Me If You Can (2002) by Baurushan J — 27 Jan 2014
Based on a true story, the movie focuses on Frank Abagnale Jr. played by Leonardo DiCaprio who is still in high school and is 16 years old. One day when he successfully passes himself as a substitute teacher, his success gives Frank some some bigger ideas of more profitable ways of hoaxing others.
After he frauds flight, law and medical school, he becomes a master at being a check forger. This soon attracts the attention of Carl Hanratty played by Tom Hanks, an FBI agent determined to put Frank behind bars.
He enjoys being pursued by Carl and even goes far as to chat to him once in a while. While posing as a doctor, Frank falls in love with Brenda Strong played by Amy Adams who works a candy striper. When he asks Brenda to marry him, he assumes a new identity to impress her father Roger played by Martin Sheen who happens to be the District Attorney of New Orleans.
While this movie is trying to be as historically accurate as possible as always and it does, it has the breezy sense of direction that Steven Spielberg still holds to this very day. Catch Me If You Can gets a 9.
