Review of Catch-22 (1970) by Paul L — 13 Nov 2015
A man desperatly tries to get out of his army duty, claiming to be crazy. Well, he may be, but so is the rest of the situation here. At times the film comes out as disturbing. Still funny and quite weird or surreal at times. Anti-war is a solid message here in all it's satirical presentation.
Based on a well known book and my guess is that this is a solid adaptation. It looks swell and the huge budget seem to be well spent. Loads of memorable scenes and beautiful women. Great characters, even if there are a bit too many of them to get to know everyone as good as you want to.
A film that's just as impressive as it's solid cast. Welles, Voight, Prentiss, Sheen Sr., Perkins, Newhart, Garfunkel and Arkin among others appear. They all deliver.
8.5 out of 10 Captain Major's.
