Review of Catch-22 (1970) by James P — 07 May 2006
MOVIE MAKING.
I spent the weekend finishing up a 20 minute film I'm making out of old home movie footage of my family from 1989. It's definately RADIOMAN970's EPIC! :D Took weeks of editing...after all the planning was done. I'm very proud of it. I consider it the best thing I've ever created. And I use very little of my own voice (it's not even apparent it's my voice).
The project from my movie editing software is still rendering! It's taking about 15 hours just to turn it into a usable video file...lots of video and effects were used and my PC is slow. I won't reveal what it is; just in case my mom views this (I think she visits my journal here, the dear :) ).
*mouths the words "hey mom" thru a goofy smile* :D.
After all she's gone through lately I'm trying to make this whole thing worth watching; plus lots of surprises among the raw footage of our family and pets. The raw footage was a bit sparse on this tape (there are 17 VHS tapes in all stretching from 1989 - 1999 and I'm only on tape 2). But I feel I've taken full advantage of the material on this one. I'm mostly doing it for laughs. Tape 3 has a lot more. I'm looking forward to tackling it next. It'll take a lot to top what I did this weekend. But I've looked ahead at some of the material and don't see a problem with topping it. Good stuff ahead!! :).
MOVIE WATCHING.
Took a break a few times from the power movie making sessions to watch a couple of favs:
Catch-22 is a strange animal. Military/comedy/surrealistic/drama/satire. Did I miss one? Anyway, it works on every single level it reaches for. A lovely time of movie watching! I prefer it to MASH and most other military comedies. I only watched a few minutes of the commentary, but wished I had more time to watch the whole thing again that way. It's a shame Arkin didn't participate though. :(.
Support Your Local Sheriff. This must be one of the most likable films ever. It's has a 70s live action Disney feel...thanks to Hacket I'm sure but Garner does comedy well too and is perfect for the role of the "local sheriff" from the title. Give it a chance to get started and it'll work it's charms on you. Up there with Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles!
