Review of Catacombs (2007) by Amanda F — 25 Nov 2007
Despite the sometimes subpar acting and slight predictability (only close to the beginnig) I loved it! Relatively speaking it's an amazing horror/suspense/thriller(as in compared to the derivative and absured crap that hollywood spews out these days). It's based on a true story- not "inspired" by one, so this actually happened- I love movies that are based on real events. Some parts seem to drag on a little much, though it only adds to the realness of the story, and the suspense (plus it takes away from anything you could predict in the start about the ending). It was suspensful, scary, and completely fucked up in all the right ways. It's also a movie you think about after you've seen it- not just a hollywood horror you leave the theatre and begin to see plot holes and the illogical nature of it. It was logical, irrationally rational, and humanly hypocritical (as we all can be). It did everything it should within it's genre, and I believe it really stuck to the true story it was based upon. A fantastic movie- for anyone who's like me, who need a logical plot, something that has the possibility of being real (being able to happen in "real life" or having already happened), and still scaring the crap outta you- Go see it.
Also very interesting in terms of the human and psychological aspects of the plot- what real people did, and continue to do in this world. I absolutely loved the ending!
