Review of Cat People (1942) by Julie A — 15 Nov 2008
As I said it before, I do love a good scare from a horror film; especially from a retro horror film. This is one of my favorite horror films from the 1940s, about a woman who is a werecat (like a werewolf only feline; I am a cat-lover you know); and it became a cult favorite to supernatural/horror fans, and after it's release, that was a sequel maded called The Curse of the Cat People.
The film's story starts when naval construction designer Oliver Reed sees Serbian-born beauty Irena Dubrovna at a zoo, he flirts with her, and soon they fall in love and marry. Complications arise because Irena believes she is the victim of an ancient Serbian curse that causes her to turn into a panther if a man tries to make love to her (a werecat; only no full moon),and the marriage is not consummated. Oliver sends Irena for treatment with psychiatrist Dr. Louis Judd, and Oliver seeks "consolation" with his colleague Alice Moore. Irena becomes jealous when she learns that she may be losing Oliver to Alice.
As I said many times, I don't have a favorite scene, because I love the WHOLE film, it is awesome! I recommended it for those who love classic films and a good scare from a horror film.
