Review of Cat People (1942) by Bob V — 05 Jan 2011
Classic horror masterpiece, which invented (and drives it to unique heights) the adage that it's scarier to show as little as possible. Driven entirely by the intensity of actress Simone Simon, the terrific play of light and dark & the claustrophobic settings, "Cat People" doesn't show you its central monster as anything more than a shadow.
These shadows are used expertly though and add up to a creepy movie, that still stands its ground nowadays, though it's highly unlikely to scare the pants off anyone.
